It used to be the case that only Google offered long-term update pledges for its devices, but that’s changed in the last couple of years. Now, it’s not uncommon to find similarly lengthy pledges from many big-name Android OEMs today.
So with that in mind, we want to know whether your phone is covered by a long-term update pledge? Let us know by voting in the poll below and leaving a comment below if you’d like to elaborate (e.g. phone model).
Is your phone covered by a long-term update pledge?
Google and Samsung are the two most prominent players in this regard. For one, all Pixels generally receive three major OS updates, with the latest Pixel 6 series also receiving five years of security patches. Samsung offers three OS updates and four years of patches for some phones, extending to four and five respectively for more recent and high-end device families.
Meanwhile, the likes of Nokia, OnePlus, and Xiaomi offer three OS updates for a very limited number of devices. So chances of extended updates with these devices aren’t as good as a device from Google or Samsung. These odds go down in a big way for devices from the likes of Motorola and Realme.
Either way, you can let us know whether your phone is covered by a long-term pledge via the poll bove.
