TL;DR

  • At Google I/O 2022, the company launched Google Pixel Buds Pro.
  • These are the first Pixel Buds to incorporate active noise-cancellation (ANC).
  • You can grab them on July 28 for $199.

The Google Pixel Buds Pro will be the highest-end Pixel Buds you can get starting this summer. They will integrate a more powerful chipset and include active noise-cancellation (ANC). This brings them into direct competition with the highest-end earbuds from companies like Samsung, with its Galaxy Buds Pro.

Google has created its own algorithm for creating an ANC environment. Ambient sound comes into the microphones on the outside of the buds, and then, with very low latency, the buds filter out that sound.

However, not everyone’s ears are the same. This results in tighter or looser seals around the ears for individuals. Google claims its algorithm can compensate for this by automatically adjusting the ANC power within Google Pixel Buds Pro to create the ideal listening environment.

But what about when you do want to hear what’s going on outside of your earbuds? Google has a solution for that as well with a transparency mode. This allows you to hear what’s going on almost like you’re not wearing the buds at all.

Finally, Pixel Buds Pro come with all the usual features you expect. High-quality microphones, access to Google Assistant, real-time translation, multi-point connectivity, and more. Later this year, Pixel Buds Pro will also support spatial audio.
